Karrer, who for years has been living a strangely monotonous existence on the outskirts of society, suddenly finds himself torn apart from his old ways. His attraction for a bar-singer gets him involved in shady business deals and eventually he loses himself in a tangled fishnet of emotions. Although he once would have fought for his freedom, he now emerges as a loser — a hateful, revengeful and hopelessly lonely ghost of a man.
