Synopsis
Olinda, located in the northeast of Brazil, is one of the oldest cities of Brazil. The city is almost 500 years old and was baptized „The Beauty“ by the first settlers. Every year charismatic musicians meet up in Olinda in order to pass on a great variety of traditional rhythms, dances and songs to ist people. The documentary portrays the two musicians Tonboy and Zeca do Rolete, who both live in this truly special place. Immersing in their Afro-American culture, one starts to get a deep understanding of how a country like Brazil, despite social misery, an economic crisis and a right-wing president, manages to preserve its cultural heritage spreading its famous vibrant lifestyle all over. The flourishing of these rich cultural treasures can especially be witnessed in the time before and during the annual public democratic carnaval.
